Relic Series

The Relic Series is a highly graphic visual articulation of the emotional struggle and triumph of my grandmother’s six-month battle with renal cell carcinoma. Through the process of being her primary caregiver I had the blessing and curse of watching her slowly fade away each day as our relationship grew closer. It was the hardest and most tragic experience of my life and yet equally as beautiful and rewarding. This series delves into the beauty found in the process of death through mixed media and printmaking techniques such as acetone transfer and cyanotype print. I have melded these two techniques together along with the use of various mediums as well as hand stitched accents. There is a strength and frailty in this process of creation and destruction. Each work in this series uses microscopic images of cancer cells juxtaposed against highly graphic scientific renderings of cell structures. These structures have been made to create an iconic language harkening back to Egyptian Cuneiform through these graphic stylizations.

The series is currently a work in progress.   This series has the potential to be included in my thesis for my MFA at Houston Baptist University.

All current completed works are available for purchase with the contingency that I will be allowed to display the work for my thesis show in May 2019!
